I have gone, I am pleased to say, on a reading spree. I picked up The God of Small Things written by Arundhati Roy, an Indian writer. Arundhati Roy has incredible command of words and her writing style is very unique. Her writing is very impressive. The story is set in the state of Kerala (South India) and touches upon the themes of family, love, friendship, religion, caste and nationality. What is greatly entertaining is the manner in which Arundhati Roy’s tone becomes child like, which is dominant especially when she is narrating incidents about the children in the novel. I thought that their childhood was captured most vividly. The plot too is rather interesting and the end sort of gave me goosebumps all over. Continue reading

It’s been an interesting two weeks, what with the new Dubai Metro and all. I have to say, though, Dubai did a really good job. The objective was to have the train up and running and ready for passengers on 09.09.09 at 09.09.09 PM. And that is exactly what happened. The fares are also reasonable but the Student Card is the BOMB. The fares are really cheap and it’s really good for us students. Boy, is it fast. It takes about 19 minutes to cover a distance that would take around 40 minutes by car. And there’s no Salik toll! Faaaaaaabulous. There are, however, some kinks in the system. Continue reading
